CAMS2_61
Global and regional emissions
Overview
The CAMS2_61_bis project (“Global and regional emissions”) focuses on delivering emission datasets for the CAMS production systems and beyond. Emissions are crucial input for air quality modelling, and a correct representation of the key sources including their location is essential. In this project, we provide such emission datasets for the European scale (our CAMS-REG product) as well as various global emission products, both from anthropogenic and natural origin. All these datasets are publicly available through the ECCAD system.
TNO’s role
TNO coordinates the project as a whole and leads the work on the European anthropogenic emissions, where our CAMS-REG emission product is delivered on an annual basis. It features emissions from the main greenhouse gases and air pollutants on a 0.05x0.1 degree resolution over all of Europe, largely based on the official reported emission data from European countries to UNFCCC and UNECE, complemented with a spatial distribution approach which is consistent over Europe, featuring targeted spatial distribution maps (e.g. for wood combustion, road transport), point source databases and proxy maps. With each version the product is further improved, including the addition of new pollutants. CAMS-REG is one our groups’ flagships and the main anthropogenic emission dataset used for air quality modelling at European scale.
Furthermore, TNO contributes to the development of the global point source inventory and coordinates the service evolution portfolio, where specific issues or novel approaches are being developed.
Key partners
TNO coordinates this project which involves 12 partners which each bring in their own complementary expertise, providing their own dedicated emission product(s). Key partners include (amongst others) the Max Planck Institute for Meteorology, the Norwegian Meteorological Institute , the Barcelona Supercomputing Centre, Charles University, the French Alternative Energies and Atomic Energy Commission and the Finnish Meteorological Institute.
